March 13, 2025Emma & Peter - A Diamond Rediscovered
The story behind the piece
Emma first came into our workshop looking to restore her engagement ring, which had lost a small stone. After a warm chat, a few laughs, and some time spent discussing jewellery and stories, she mentioned having a diamond pendant at home—one she hadn’t worn more than a couple of times in over twenty years. She said it never quite felt like her.
When she brought it in, we discovered a stunning natural diamond weighing 1.19ct—brilliantly cut, beautifully colourless, and eye-clean. I could hardly hide my excitement trying to explain just how special her diamond was. The sparkle said it all.
We sketched out a new design together—something that would reflect her character and breathe life into the diamond again. I sent her drawings and a short video of a platinum ring design with a crown-style setting, finished with six sharp talon claws to hold the stone securely and proudly.
She said she would speak with her husband, Peter, and let me know. A couple of months later, Peter came in. A soft-spoken gentleman, we shared stories and laughter as he told me about the day he bought the diamond in Hatton Garden. It had been displayed among many others in a secure room with locked cases and watchful eyes—it made for a brilliant story and an even better memory.
Although the original pendant wasn’t melted—it was white gold—we started fresh with a platinum mount to give this incredible stone a new life. The final piece is elegant, refined, and enduring—just like the couple behind it. While not made as an engagement ring, it holds the essence of a single diamond symbolising strength, commitment, and timelessness—making it the perfect diamond ring for anyone who values legacy over trends.
Design & Craftsmanship
The focus of this piece was simple: let the diamond speak.
We designed a crown-style platinum mount to elevate the 1.19ct natural diamond, using six precise talon claws to hold it securely while keeping the setting delicate and clean. The talon claws allow maximum light to enter the stone without overpowering its natural elegance—balancing strength and refinement.

From CAD design to hand-finishing, every stage of this ring was created in-house. The platinum band was built around the dimensions of the stone, not the other way around, ensuring perfect proportion and presence. The setting was cast, cleaned, and then carefully prepared under magnification to bring out sharp edges, smooth flow, and a seamless transition from mount to stone.
I personally handled the diamond setting under microscope, aligning the claws to grip the girdle without pinching or covering the top. The claws were then tightened, shaped, and polished by hand. Every claw tip was aligned to keep visual symmetry, and the shoulders were polished to a high finish to complement the crisp white of the platinum and the fire of the diamond.
The result? A ring that looks timeless from the top—and architectural from the side.
