The story behind the piece

Emma, a bright and passionate soul, found her way to me through a dear friend whose engagement and wedding rings I had the honour of crafting. From the moment we met, it was clear that she had a deep appreciation for the artistry behind fine jewellery. Her excitement for the design process was infectious—her eyes sparkled like the Sri Lankan sapphires she dreamed of.

More than just an engagement ring, Emma wanted to carry forward the sentiment of a cherished heirloom, incorporating diamonds from a treasured piece into something new. These diamonds held profound personal meaning, and she was determined to have them woven into her engagement ring’s story. Together, we explored a stunning selection of emerald-cut sapphires, ensuring she could find the perfect shade to reflect her personality. After careful selection, we moved forward with crafting a bespoke cathedral-style setting, designed to elevate her sapphire and honour the memories embedded in each stone.

As a special touch, I wanted to surprise Emma—beyond simply setting the diamonds around the sapphire, I meticulously added extra diamonds along the shoulders, symbolising the path of love, history, and the future she and Robin were building together.

The step-cut facets of an emerald-cut sapphire create an unparalleled depth, drawing the eye into its velvety blue tones and reflecting light in a way that feels endlessly captivating. This cut highlights clarity, structure, and elegance, making it a timeless choice for those who appreciate refined beauty.
  • Why a Cathedral Setting? Inspired by grand architectural forms, the cathedral setting gracefully arches, allowing light to flood the sapphire from multiple angles, enhancing its brilliance. This structure also provides added security, ensuring the heirloom diamonds sit seamlessly within the design.
  • Diamond Placement & Detailing
    • The halo of mixed princess and brilliant-cut diamonds encircling the sapphire creates a stunning contrast, amplifying its rich blue hue while symbolising eternity and devotion.
    • Surprise diamond-set shoulders—an unexpected addition—add an extra touch of radiance, ensuring the ring sparkles from every angle.

Each stone was set with the utmost care, ensuring harmony between heirloom sentiment and new beginnings. This engagement ring is not just jewellery—it is a testament to Emma and Robin’s love story, infused with meaning, craftsmanship, and the continuation of precious memories.
